The Hamlets...coming soon

Introducing The Hamlets

The Hamlets is a pop-up cinema project funded by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and delivered by the film charity Balik Arts. The Hamlets project offers the opportunity to watch amazing movies from around the world in great and unusual locations in Tower Hamlets town centres. Balik Arts will start delivery of the project from September 2017 until March 2018.

This pop-up cinema project will use venues in Tower Hamlets town centres, starting with Oxford House in Bethnal Green, and then in locations in other town centres including Brick Lane, Roman Road West, Watney Market, and Chrisp Street. It will involve local businesses, community organisations and residents, who will help promote, plan and deliver the pop-up cinema project.

Come and be part of creating and screening an inspiring programme of films for different age groups and interests. Attendance to the screenings is open to everyone. The Hamlets project gives everyone a chance to discover the many cool areas that form Tower Hamlets.

Alongside the screenings, local people supporting The Hamlets will receive free training on ‘How to Organise Community Film Screenings’. This training will be run by film professionals. Volunteers will gain skills to help run the borough’s pop-up cinema, while also having a taste of a career, in what is often a difficult sector to access.

If you would like to be part of this exciting new mobile cultural hub for the borough contact Balik Arts at info@balikarts.org.uk or text 07989 401 504.
